Lighting a Lamp Light of Peace
We have a Educational Booking for St Mawes Primary School (27 Pupils + Staff) to attend the site. Will are to supply them with Cream Teas kindly donated by St Mawes Bakery (a 150 year old local bakery run by one of our sites volunteers). We have some personal WWII items to discuss with the children the history of the occasion and for them to handle (including service medals) and to teach them of the site’s use during WWII (we have an official tour for the period already to hand). The children will also be encouraged to perform the traditional Helston Flora dance on the day as V.E. Day falls on the same date as this ancient Cornish Tradition or to perform song/dance of their choice.
We are hopeful that some local ex-service personnel will attend.
A private lighting of the Lamp of Peace (staff/volunteers/and any interested parties) will take place at 21:30pm in the castle courtyard, and similar styled and sized led lamps illuminated from the turret windows.
