The Ealing and Hanwell Allotments Association is hosting a celebration and commemoration to mark the start of the week in which VE Day falls. In the Searchlight station, we will honour the work of those who dug for Victory and who manned the searchlights. At noon, the day will be opened by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ealing.
There will be walks to the Air Raid Shelters on the allotments. EHAA promotes the joy of horticulture by providing gardening advice and selling horticultural items on a cooperative basis to our members, offering not-for-profit items and informative talks. At this event, a talk on the Language of Flowers will be presented. We aim to utilise our site to combat social isolation and provide a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere in a green environment. Haslemere Allotments and residents of Haslemere Avenue are involved in the event, providing afternoon tea, coffee, snacks and cake, as well as local community singers, poetry, and musicians.
