HMS Wellington (1934) is the sole surviving dedicated Battle of the Atlantic convoy escort in Europe and served throughout WW2 from 3 September 1939 to 8 May 1945 on convoy duties. She is credited with 103 Atlantic convoys, saving over 400 lives and was present at the surrender of one German U-boat. Wellington is a rare piece of British WW2 maritime history in the centre of London and The Wellington Trust (Registered Charity number 1109066) is both honoured and pleased to be taking part in VE Day 80. We have two events running on 8 May 2025: 1. Flag raising at 9am. This can be viewed from Victoria Embankment. The nearest tube station is Temple. After the flag raising, the ship will be open for 60 minutes for members of the public to view the upper decks and take images onboard. Optional tea and biscuits will be available for a discretionary donation to support the preservation of HMS Wellington. 2. The VE Day 80 Experience from 1400 – 1700, including a WI Big Bake (TBC). This is a fundraising ticketed event. Full details will be announced on 8th March, when tickets go on sale via the Wellington Trust website www.thewellingtontrust.org. Due to the size of the ship, tickets will be limited and sold on first come, first served basis. 100% of profits from the event will support the preservation of HMS Wellington.
