The Global Horticulture Knowledge Exchange
As part of the VE Day 80 Legacy Projects, we are launching a groundbreaking initiative to unite horticultural organisations from around the world. This Global Horticulture Knowledge Exchange will be a collaborative platform, allowing experts, communities, and the next generation of growers to share insights, best practices, and innovative techniques in sustainable horticulture.
Echoing the wartime “Dig for Victory” campaign that empowered communities to cultivate their own food, this international exchange of knowledge aims to enhance the collective techniques of horticulturists, encourage new and sustainable growing methods, and ensure that future generations are equipped with the skills to nurture both their environment and food security.
How It Works:
A Global Network: We will connect horticultural organisations, schools, councils, and environmental groups worldwide, encouraging collaboration and shared learning.
Knowledge Hub: A digital platform will be developed, where experts can contribute tips, research, and innovative techniques, ensuring that traditional wisdom meets modern sustainability practices.
Learning for the Future: Schools and young growers will be encouraged to engage with the platform, promoting hands-on learning experiences that connect them with nature and food cultivation.
Find & Join Local Groups: A key feature of the platform will be a public directory of horticultural clubs, organisations, and growing initiatives, enabling individuals to find and join a local group near them. Whether they are beginners or experienced gardeners, this will provide an easy way for people to connect, learn, and contribute to their community’s green spaces.
VE Day 80 Celebration Gardens: This initiative will tie into the larger VE Day 80 garden project, where seasonal, symbolic gardens will be planted across the UK. These gardens will serve as living classrooms, demonstrating the importance of biodiversity, sustainability, and the role of nature in resilience and renewal.
On 8 May 2025, the global horticultural community will come together in a shared moment of action—planting, teaching, and celebrating the power of knowledge and collaboration. Just as victory was once achieved through unity and perseverance, this project ensures that future generations can cultivate a greener, more sustainable future.
By sharing knowledge across borders and making horticulture more accessible, we inspire a thriving future for our planet.
