Lighting a Lamp Light of Peace
🇬🇧 VE Day 80th Anniversary Concert 🇬🇧
On 8 May 2025, York Railway Institute Band and the York Military Wives Choir will mark the historic 80th Anniversary of VE Day in a celebration concert at St Wildred’s Church in Strensall, York starting at 7.30pm.
The programme will feature wonderful music both old and new that will evoke memories of that heady day in May 1945 with band and choir joining together with the audience in a rousing ‘Last Night of the Prom’s’ finale. A spine tingling feature of the concert will see the lighting of a ‘Lamp Light of Peace’ at 9.30pm as thousand of other beacons and hundreds of Lamp Lights of Peace are lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, with the flames from them both, representing the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the dreadful darkness of war, along with the nation coming together in city and town squares to village greens, and all other manner of locations at this special and unique one moment in time, and sing the great British Hymn ‘I Vow To Thee My Country’, standing side by side in gratitude, honouring the many sacrifices that secured our freedom.
