Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire celebrates the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to share in a commemorative and moving VE Day.
The first half of this commemorative concert celebrates the contribution of the Gordon Highlanders –described by Winston Churchill as “the Finest Regiment in the World” – and the many others who served during the Second World War, accompanied by live music from the 1940s.
“For our tomorrow, they gave their today” frames the second half of the concert, celebrating music and culture over the decades since 1945, with a focus on Aberdeen and the North East.
Introduced by presenter and host Robert Lovie, performers include:
• The Robert Gordon’s College Pipe Band
• Members of the Aberdeen University Concert Band
• Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts
• Singer Seonaid Aitken
• Fiddle player Raemond Jappy
• Last Pipe Major of the Gordon Highlanders Captain Stuart Samson MBE
• Alba Capella
All proceeds from the event will go towards the Gordon Highlanders Museum and local performing arts centre St Margaret’s Braemar.
