Celebrate Peace & Commemorate the End of WWII in Europe
WHAT’S ON in Ropley on Thursday 8th May
9am Raising the Union flag in St Peters Churchyard.
2.30 – 4.30pm Find projects by the schoolchildren in the Parish Hall along with any memorabilia you can bring before 1.30pm. Tea and cakes available. Donations to Help for Heroes.
3.30pm “Never Forgotten – The Work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission” a talk in the Parish Hall by Cdr Bill Dawson RN(Retd) followed by a tour of our CWGC headstones in the churchyard.
At 6.30pm listen out for the Ropley Bellringers as they join the national call to ring in celebration of peace.
8pm Did you know that Fish & Chips was never rationed? To remember the fishermen who fed the nation and the land girls who grew the potatoes, place your order for Fish & Chips (or veg burger or sausage) at the Courtyard Shop with £5pp cash payment (subsidised) by or on Thursday 1st May. Collect & eat at the Pavilion on 8th.
8.45pm At sunset on the Rec Reverend Amber and the Choir and Band will lead us in paying tribute to those who sacrificed so much. A special guest will light the Remembrance Lamp, which represents the light of peace after the darkness of war.
