On VE (Victory in Europe) Day in 1945, millions took to the streets to celebrate peace after years of devastating war. In recognition of the 80th anniversary of this national event, Falmouth has planned a series of celebratory opportunities.

Beginning with a flag-raising ceremony at 9am on The Moor, followed by a small commemorative service at the Memorial Garden in Kimberley Park at 11am. Four wreaths will be laid, one by the Town Mayor, one on behalf of the Military, one by A&P Falmouth on behalf of the civilian population of Falmouth and one for the Veterans.

Throughout the day, Pendennis Castle will be a hub of activity, offering a wide range of free family-friendly activities, workshops, and historical displays from 11am-4.30pm. Entry to the Castle will be free all day from 10am-10pm, providing the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to explore Falmouth’s wartime heritage in a truly atmospheric setting.

As evening falls, the celebrations will continue at Pendennis Castle with performances from local artists leading up to the Beacon lighting ceremony at 9.30pm.
