Beverley Town Council is planning a community event in Coronation Gardens on Thursday 8th May 2025 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. The event will be free to attend and starts start at 6pm, when electronic candles will be handed out to represent the lamplights of peace & be a keepsake.
We start with the VE Day 80 Proclamation, followed by prayers & words of thanksgiving. The beacon will then be lit & the public asked to turn on their tealights, & the official VE Day Words of Celebration will be recited. This is followed by “I Vow to Thee, My Country”, led by Beverley Male Voice Choir.
Although the above occurs nationally at 9:30pm, we wants the event to be accessible to all & family-friendly, so it will hold it at 6pm, but then repeat the whole ceremony again at 9:30pm.
The public is encouraged to bring a picnic to Coronation Garden & enjoy the May evening in good company & community spirit. Between 7pm & 9:30pm there will be performances from:
– Beverley Church Lads & Girls Brigade
– Beverley Male Voice Choir
– Beverley Garland Dancers
– Beverley & District Pipe Band
– She Productions
The evening will conclude with a repeat of the 6pm ceremony 9:30pm.
The Town Council thanks the Beverley & District Chamber of Trade & East Riding of Yorkshire Council VE & VJ Day 80th Anniversary Community Fund for financially supporting this event.
